Texting is class is considered a problem by many teachers in the current day, I believe that they feel it distracts their class and interrupts their ability to teach effectively. Though, being a student myself I feel that it's not such a problem as an annoyance. There are certain times it should be allowed, like during individual work times or when you're done all of your current work, why, who, and where shouldn't matter. It's beneficial in the sense that it keeps the potentially more distracting students from talking to others, creating a louder and disrupted area for other students. Texting is a quiet way to pass the time in the class room when you're done your work or taking a small break from say, writing a large piece of essay and need to clear your head and straighten out your ideas.
In a non-beneficial way texting in the class could be distracting if the teacher is in a middle of a lecture and it forces him/her to repeat themselves when an inconsiderate student has to ask what was said right after. Also, texting while doing a test or exam, group work or a practical assignment could be considered cheating, rude, or a complete lack of focus leading to mistakes in work.

I agree in you saying it's more distracting to students when they're talking aside from texting, keeping it a quieter area to work in.
ReplyDeleteThat's a bingo!
I agree with you 100% Brett. It only makes sense that we would be allowed to text after we have completed our tasks for the day and be able to during a test, exam or a lesson.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Brett. Student's should be allowed to use cell phones once we are done are work. It would also keep the classroom a lot more quiet and tt would make the teachers life very easy.
